The visible wounds of WWI are well documented. The psychological ones, hidden for over a century, were not. We made them physically present on the archival photographs themselves.
Archival images of soldiers suffering from psychological trauma were damaged, illustrating in a physical way the trauma: cut, dissolved, eroded. For one visual, we printed 1,916 pages, stacked and sculpted them into the shape of a trench. Julien Beuvry, our Art Director: “We wanted these posters to undergo a form of ordeal, like the soldiers themselves.” Entirely hand-crafted. No AI.
Audrey Chaix, Director of the museum: “At a time when war is once again striking Europe, the campaign builds a bridge between the traumas of yesterday and those of today.” Launched in March 2026, as mental health among combatants was designated France’s Grande Cause Nationale.
