People’s car is the DNA of the Volkswagen brand. We wanted to talk to all those, customers or not, who are experiencing stories and situations so common to all, as soon as we take the road.
We commissioned illustrator Kikuo Johnson, whose realistic and elegant line work had made him one of the most admired cartoonists working in America, to create a series of twelve driver portraits for Volkswagen’s Instagram. Each one posted on a Monday, the stories captured the specific, funny, universal things that happen in cars. By drawing moments of everyday life Johnson managed to create a whole new way of telling stories: the self-portrait.
A universal experience that Volkswagen shared with everyone and they saw themselves in it.
